Be Water Smart Decorating Contest

Be Water Smart Decorating Contest (Through April 12, 2015)

Kids Invited to Get Creative in the Be Water Smart Decorating Contest

Top five winners will each receive a $25 gift card

Calling all kids! Show off your decorating skills with Les Leaky as he searches for water waste by entering the Be Water Smart Decorating Contest. The top five winners will each receive a $25 gift card. Here's how the contest works:

  • An illustration of Les Leaky on the hunt for water waste will be published in the Sunday, March 15 print edition of the Sacramento Bee, just in time for the national "Fix a Leak Week" celebration.

In addition, posters will also be available for download here, or at BeWaterSmart.info or for pick up (while supplies last) at The Sacramento Bee, 2100 Q Street, Sacramento, CA 95816 or Regional Water Authority, 5620 Birdcage Street, Suite 180, Citrus Heights, CA 95610, or.

  • Then, get creative! Make your Les Leaky stand out from all of the others by coloring and decorating the picture (add glitter, stickers, paint--you name it).

  • Finally, return your decorated masterpiece to the Sacramento Bee office by 5 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2015. You can mail your entry to:

    Be Water Smart Decorating Contest
    Education Department
    P.O. Box 15779
    Sacramento, CA 95852

or drop it off between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. at The Sacramento Bee, 2100 Q Street, Sacramento, CA 95816.

Local water providers along with staff at the Bee will determine the top five winners. Entries will be judged on creativity, aesthetic appearance and spirit of their display. Winners will be announced and their artwork displayed on Wednesday, April 22 (Earth Day) on BeWaterSmart.info.

The Be Water Smart Decorating Contest is sponsored by the Elk Grove Water District, the Regional Water Authority and Sacramento Bee's Media in Education program. The contest is open to children in pre-school through 6th grade in Sacramento, Placer and El Dorado counties, plus the City of West Sacramento. For official rules go to sacbee.com/mie.

Happy decorating and remember to Be Water Smart!
